Manifest Community
Original Vision Statement (From when working as a part of Radiolaria)
We wish to create a place where community members can finally have a haven to share, learn, and teach. A place where artists and philosophers have an environment to congregate, connect, and create. During the day, workshops, seminars, screenings, meditation, and other classes commence; while in the evening events emerge such as, poetry nights, documentary/movie nights, art parties, evening seminars, fundraisers, memorials, live bands, you name it - why not!? ... in the long term, our vision aspires to become an shining example of a progressive use of space.
We envision Manifest operating as a communal space that is able to sustain itself through the collective labour of its members by creating and building projects – multiplying – and then growing and expanding. By progressive, we mean constructive, fun, efficient, forward moving, replenishing, even revolutionary!
We are committed to creating a transformational and collective system where we can cultivate a sense of connection, belonging, change and support within our society. In our community, we already have parties galore, because they are fun, and work economically, but we are here to develop the empowering aspects of sharing, teaching, and learning because knowledge is power, and in today's age, where awareness on all levels is spreading, we should endevour to expand our minds and social connections to one another on all levels!
Our hope is to work with the community and help it become everything that it has the potential to become. But, as workers and working class activists we recognize the importance of not just focusing inwards, but looking outwards and seeing our community within a global economic and social context.
It is thus critically important to rally the community to fight around issues of critical importance to all of us. Racism, sexism, economic exploitation, war and colonialism, and the threat of a total environmental collapse are issues that invariably touch us all. The power we have to shape the world when we work together cannot be underestimated, and one of the greatest strengths of our community is our ability to come together!
It is therefore our goal to walk the fine line between pushing the community to manifest itself according to it’s own beautiful logic, while at the same time encouraging it and pushing it towards embracing co-operative economics, collective decision making and progressive values. Yet, fine line or not, these tasks are essentially the same: to mobilize this community into a movement, and to see it become the truest expression of itself! We will use this opportunity to demonstrate and manifest the capability of a self-governing, communal space to offer and outreach to others who have similar passions and dreams. This is our niche.
